I appreciate everyone's comments.

Here's our perspective of things. In many ways AdultFriendFinder is like a vast bazaar in the center of a great city. Everybody goes there with their own individual expectations of what they are hoping to "buy" and what they are hoping to "sell". I use the words buy and sell deliberately because sexual encounters are often very transactional in nature, even when no money, per se, changes hands. Unfortunately, as with all large marketplaces, sometimes people come there to misrepresent, to cheat, to deceive, to advance commercial objectives under the guise of human interaction.

When you look at it this way, the lines that separate a person who is offering sex in exchange for dinner, from the person who wants to monetize you as traffic in their own web site, from the person who will actually have sex with you for a negotiated price, become a little blurry. From this potentially confused and muddy state of affairs, we're forced to examine the basic objectives of our site. We want AdultFriendFinder to be the best place on the Web for people to come whenever they want to explore themselves and others sexually. Sometimes that exploration takes the form of physical meetings, sometimes the need is fulfilled through online interaction -- chat, e-mail, exchange of photos, etc. Many of our perfectly satisfied members never reach out at all, but simply gratify their desires by browsing the profiles of their neighbors nextdoor or of strangers on the other side of the globe Given such a broad range of possible member desires and gratifications, it behooves us to keep the options as open as we can. Where we draw the line is very simple: members must be the person they are representing in their profile, and they must refrain from making anonymous commercial solicitations to other members. By anonymous, we mean links to other sites or any open requests for e-mails that rob the AFF experience of its intended direct person-to-person quality.

So, my dear AFF members, I can tell you with absolute conviction that there are millions of REAL people looking for "something" on our site. Whether the "something" they are offering matches the "something" you may be seeking is a matter for personal, private discussion between consenting adults. Caveat emptor.
