You may take some heat from some has they will claim it violates their TOS. For example a trial join at a buck or three may get you a $35 payout. To be fair, ya should stay for enough time for the sponsor to be whole in the transaction.
I have always thought that we should have a trade organization that tests sponsors and that sponsors agree to a code of ethics. Part of the deal is that they will be be subject to random blind testing. Then that sponsor could display a seal of approval.
The ethics should be two way. Affiliates cheat too. Think its just as hard to control fraud on the part of an affiliate??
Other items that could be included in a list of unifying principals:
Don't steal content
Don't spam
Pic tags on all sites
Well you get the idea. Have levels of mebership to pay for testing and enforcement of rules. Break the rules and you are off the list of approved affiliates or sponsors.
That's the short version. Would it work or ever happen?
There have been some meger attempts at starting a trade organization, but they don't seem to take off.
