I couldn't agree more. I was a victim of abuse as a child and so was my brother..... we both walked two COMPLETELY different paths as adults though. I took it and used it to my advantage and learned what NOT to do to my children and because of the abuse, I am a better parent and a better person, why? Because I know how to treat people and what hurts and what doesn't. I only have the temper left and even that has settled some over the years because of the awesome support system I have in my life, married him 21 years ago. LOL
My brother, however, is walking the EXACT same path that he grew up in, he is a raging, abusive, alcoholic, been married 3 times, and so on.... he blew off his kids like they were a bother and now his oldest has just gone to jail THIS week for burglary, and you know why? Because he has a home and a roof over his head in jail, his parents BOTH shut him out because he was a burden to them.
ANYONE can be abused and a large part of them are, probably morethan we care to realize.... but it is what you do as an adult that makes it then YOUR responsibility. Did you take it and learn from it, or are you going to walk the same path and use the "abuse excuse" to get you out of trouble after you got yourself into it? I, for one, get so tired of the abuse excuse.... it's a cop out as far as I am concerned. Yeah, abuse is horrible and it sucks and can fuck you up for the rest of your life.... IF YOU LET IT!!!
This isn't to say I don't care at all, because god knows I do...... but there are choices we make as adults that have to outweigh the abuse we suffered as children or we'll NEVER break that chain and as you see by my bothers choices, he is continuing it on because it was much to hard to do the work to break HIS chain...... I chose to break mine! Some do and some don't.... it's their choice though once they become adults.
We hear about it more in the porn industry because that is where WE ARE, in the porn industry. But as CDSmith said, if you are in a different industry, you are going to think there are more in THAT industry than any other. It is all a matter of what you know and where you are....... but it is EVERYWHERE, not JUST in the porn industry, we just know this one better than we do others. Or most of us anyway. LOL
