Putting her in jail was the only way they could keep her away from him until he was old enough to make a mature decision on his own. She did get off on a conditional sentence and comminuty service, but she violated her orders and her release was revoked.
Now that he's 21, he's old enough to choose for himself what kind of relationship he wants to have with her. A 12/13/14 year old boy doesn't have the maturity to make those decisions.
