You can lose more than your money:
"Over the past 3 years, 15 foreign businessmen (one American) have been murdered
in Nigeria in AFF scams.
Since September 1995, at least eight Americans have been held against their will by
these criminals in Lagos that have come to the attention of the U.S. Embassy. In
1996 the U.S. Embassy helped repatriate ten Americans who came to Lagos looking
for their ?pot of gold.?"
This scam has been around in paper and fax form since the 1980s. It is a very popular scam. I got two today - and some people I know get half a dozen or so everyday.
p.s. If some hispanic looking person asks for your help in cashing a lottery ticket (because he or she can't - as they are an illegal alien) Don't fall for that either - it is the same scam - just a lot less complicated.
You would think how dumb are people to fall for this. I saw one show on scams and they (a newscrew pretending to be scammers to see if people were really that dumb) were able to get them on that one - they did.
They got almost EVERYONE on the ATM/Deposit Box is broken - deposit the money in the mailbox scam.
