Double jeopardy means that once a criminal case is dropped or a person is acquitted they can't be charged again criminally, it is entirely separate from civil courts. Many,
many people file civil suits on someone whether or not they were charged criminally and regardless of whether they were found guilty or innocent in any criminal proceedings.
