Saw it a couple hours ago.. Glad they tried to keep the story as intact as possible. The action sequences were there to fill in the movie as opposed to so many other films where the action IS the movie and the story gets pushed aside. The only technical thing I had a problem with was the sound in some spots. There were some lines where it almost sounded as if the words were being muttered.
The CGI was pretty good except for the few odd seconds that people mentioned above. When the Fellowship is running out of the Mines of Moria watch Legolas. His CGI figure is running one second then walking the next. Very odd that they did not smooth things like that out. I guess if they wanted it perfect we would have been watching it next summer instead of now.
I knew the movie ended where the first book ended, but they should have put a note at the end letting people know that the next film would be out next Christmas. I heard several people who were shocked that the movie just stops in the middle of the story. They had no idea this film was only 1/3 of the story.
Overall I was VERY pleased with it. I have the animated Ralph Bakshi movie from the '70's and this is SO much better. I can't wait to get this on DVD!
A whole fucking year to wait for the next film.. oh man, this is gonna be torture!
