The bit about rat poison is incorrect. Why they may indeed not be able to vomit, what kills them is that rat poison contains large amounts of warfarin, which causes severe internal bleeding.

People suffering from blood clots and other circulatory ailments, and they may or may not be rats, take this same drug, but obviously in smaller doses.
