what a fucking disaster that would be - the US is one of the only countries that doesn't have a VAT/GST type tax - just mentioning this will increase the chances of an American VAT tax and believe me income tax ain't every going away - so you'll wind up with a VAT tax AND income tax.

and getting rid of the IRS in favor of a VAT tax creates a whole other bureaucracy - you think businesses don't try to avoid paying that VAT tax? every business, from the smallest to the biggest now has more paperwork and then of course the government has to do tons of audits to try to keep businesses honest.

flat tax ain't a bad idea tho.
