Regarding the referrer not being passed on, it makes sense from a privacy point of view. It'd be a bit annoying if you're a stats junky and trying to figure out where your traffic is coming from. It'll really make a lot of business models really unsafe. Not knowing where your customers come from wouldn't be a good thing.
