I think I've got you all beat in many ways. Winnipeg is centrally located, the cost of living is half of the best listing on this thread, the U.S. dollar is worth $1.50 Cdn, and a NICE one-bedroom here is $450-$550 per month Cdn, or about $300 per month U.S. The crime rate here is quite low, we get less than 20 murders here per year, the city has close to 700,000 people so it's not too big yet big enough to have everything one could want. One of the finest beaches in the world for summer (Grand Beach), and the only possible headache is the snow and cold winter.

I pay $165 per month in property tax for my home, and I'm 3 minutes from downtown and the Forks Market etc. You can buy a decent home here in some okay neighborhoods for $50k - $70k, and again all this is in CANADIAN FUNDS, so divide by 1.5 to find out the cost in U.S. money.

Since all my income now comes in U.S. currency, I AM truly laughing all the way to the bank. Ucan2. Bring a shovel.
