I did 4 years with a big4 co in Audit. Basically you work a heck of a lot harder in Audit and the work can be more boring initially, however it opens up a heck of a lot of opportunities in industry, banking, private practice etc. Tax is a bit more confining - although tax consulting is a damn big industry in itself.
IMHO being qualified in either sets up with a good qualification that you can always be guaranteed to make a decent living off.
