Video / book stores are not producing anything, they are merely distributing it.
However, let's say they ripped this month's hottest DVD to make a commercial out of it to play on monitors throughout the store... then, (copyright laws aside), they would need to have the docs, as they have now (re-)produced something and are secondary producers.
Putting a text link up on your site = distribution
Putting a linked image up on your site = reproduction
