ok, granted, not Glamour or Elle kind of modeling, but photographers need subjects, and the more varied their portfolios, and the more flexibility they show in their skills, the better chances they have of getting work.
Also, the standard model types are being used a bit less in advertising due to the power of the "average jane's" dollar. Some chicks gotta have something to bitch about, and a favorite hot topic is how "unrealistic" representations of women are ruining our children's self-esteem and leading to eating disorders. (Not saying I personally subscribe to this POV....I'm a big girl, myself, but typical model types don't make me feel bad about myself. I think they make nice eye candy
