I don't know about that particular site but those practices are typical among many if not most dating sites. Pretty easy to set up a script to email/lure members using fake profiles. Sign up (as a free member) to a few dating sites and you'll recieve letters from all kinds of attractive women wanting you (in fact 100% of them will likely be young and attractive).

Aside from the big names like match, aff (who have their own problems of profiles created by Real members that use fake photos to increase their chances of meeting people - something that's almost impossible to control), most sites simply don't have the breadth in advertising to obtain many real members in enough numbers to get more members legitimately.

It's no different than the old practice in the adult industry where there were big promises of specific content in a members area and when the members joins there is little or no content. Luckily those days are over as most company's now appear to be throwing as much content as they can at their members.

Buyer beware I guess.
