I totally agree that my example of CNN selling a $9.95 supernetpass for people to watch a video of an 11 year old girl being snatched by her rapist/killer is not a "true parallel" -- it wasn't intended to be. It's a
comparison of a different source of entertainment (aka news) with a different "personality" than CJ selling something horrible but it flying under people's radar because PEOPLE EAT THIS SHIT UP. NO ONE needs to see that video of Carlie being kidnapped, it is NOT news -- it's pure macabre entertainment and probably even porn when viewed by certain twisted fucks (even at the time they aired it they didn't need to, they were NOT asking for leads from the public -- or at least, if they WERE cnn didn't care too much about the public helping out to find the girl or they wouldn't have been charging $9.95 for people to watch the video). The fact that these two examples ARE differerent is what makes it so thought-provoking to me. I'm not taking a side here, just throwing out things to consider.
