That is why we supported Saddams secular regime. He was our guard dog, until Bush Sr fucked up that relationship.
However, there is a social revolution going on inside Iran. Many Iranians are adopting more western ideals. The live in a police state, and it's still dangerous to express it, but it's true. The clerics are losing influence. The country is slowly, naturally, changing from the inside and, if we exercise some patience, war shouldn't be necessary.
Infact, an invasion would probably be counter productive.

Why don't we just stage another 'flawless' coup like we did a few decades ago, so they can counterreact with a violent revolution and seize power for another few decades, which is how the current regime got their power in the first place?
