It's absolutely true.
The percentage of lost sales can go up to 10% this way. However if You promote it right You can truly get 25% more sales in the end. Because You wont imagine how many people hate paying through referrers.
Just as an example You can make a website which PRETENDS to be Your honest websites review and market it as non-profitable.
So it's a bit like roulette.
We offer it as an extra tech option which if played right can get amazing results. Of course if You do it on a TGP gallery for example the results may be quite on the contrary. :D
However You got to remember that in standard way of sending traffic through "ref" ID You will still always loose a few sales as a webmaster because a lot of buyers will: Remove any ID from the URL string just because they are greedy bastards or interested to see the root URL .
If You do it through Cookies than You will loose sales from purchasers who dont accept cookies and if Your surfer did not purchase anything but later on went to the same paysite from a different webmaster but has Your cookie on it , You will get the sale and that other webmaster wont which theoretically is wrong of course.
You cant be TOO exact in e-commerce.
There are too many operating systems, browsers and other stuff out there.
