This shouldn't effect your insurance. Did you get an appearance ticket or do you just have to pay a fine.
I'd go to court and plead your case. You'll probably just get off with paying court fees.
My town's biggest money maker is getting people who make right turns on red or at stop signs. They have "No Turn" signs posted...200 Feet from the intersection, so they can get away with it.
