There should be no legal distinction between a rape scene in a 'R' rated movie and a rape scene in an 'X' rated movie.
When the debate is whether or not to show the penis... um... who cares? Why should one be legal and another illegal? If it's a RAPE scene, it's pretty safe to assume there is a penis present.
It doesn't make it any worse to see it on screen.
Of course it's repugnant that some guys get off on rape scenes. But, in the absence of porn, they will just wank it to the rape scene in 'Showgirls' or something else. I'd rather have those guys just jerk off and go to sleep instead of going out to find women.
Humans have a lot of primitive aggressive urges. We are animals and our neurology is still guided by instincts; whether violent or sexual or both, those urges need a safe outlet. For some that is watching a football game or boxing match. For me, maybe it's horror movies, or punk music. Those sort of harmless releases are good for society.
