Playing devil's advocate, perhaps they were removed for their own safety? Look how heated people get here about things, think of what could have happened if some hot head saw them and wanted to show off or get a chip off his shoulder? Anyway the easy counter to their 1st amandment rights being taken is that they were asked to leave private property then resisted police intervention, any lawyer worth anything will play on that.

I'd be inclined to say that could be possible. Reminds me of the people who screwed onstage 'for the rainforest'. Publicity for the cause. I guess we'll never know exactly why.
