This is how it was probably done:
They are standing on private property
Those who have control of private property have the right to ask you to leave said property for any reason ANY reason
If you do not leave when asked you are tresspassing
When you tresspass police can be called and will ask you to leave
If you do not leave peacefully they will remove you by force
If you resist you will be removed and arrested.
Playing devil's advocate, perhaps they were removed for their own safety? Look how heated people get here about things, think of what could have happened if some hot head saw them and wanted to show off or get a chip off his shoulder? Anyway the easy counter to their 1st amandment rights being taken is that they were asked to leave private property then resisted police intervention, any lawyer worth anything will play on that.
