All that is well and good, there are newbs that definitely have no clue as to how to properly get started, so they choose to spam or whatever. But there are certain newer people that show up from time to time that are obviously on the ball, sharp and observant, and quick to catch on to successful ways. I know lots of guys that came to me for link trades 2 years ago that had nothing going for them but hope and a rinky-dink free site (much the way I began) and now I see many of them having good success. One of the points I was trying to inject here is that it's unwise to paint large groups of people, in this case newbies, with such broad brush strokes (like saying they're all stupid or they're all useless twits etc) because the ONLY thing they all have in common is the fact that they're new. Other than that the differences are vast, but only if one has the power to notice.

And, leaving a referral link in one's signature is a wise move in my opinion as well. It's the "leave no stone unturned" philosophy at work, and for me it makes more than 15 bucks a week extra, but even if it only makes me $10 a week so what? That would cover my @home internet access and a lunch out besides, and for what? Leaving a link in my sig?

But for a guy that has only himself as his sponsor, I suppose it would look like a waste of time. One of my biggest points here would be that there is no "my way is the only right way" in webmastering folks. I got started back in Feb. of 98, not 97 like some others, and I see this a lot... Old-school webmasters looking down on the newer people. That sounds alot like a big waste of time to my way of thinking. My business plan looks greatly different from someone who went the way of running pay sites, I run only free sites. I don't have to worry about content theft, and I don't have to worry about one of my members selling his access codes to a password site either (so 100's of assholes can ream me). I simply work hard for quality traffic, and then I send that traffic where it will make me the most money, period.

People, guys like Rat here will always be around to poke you in the eye and wake you up (without revealing the secret to what you should be doing), that's what makes a webmaster forum like this so appealing, the diversity of the people. He does serve a useful purpose when he's not being overly ridiculous with his insults, he keeps us thinking.

But for someone who professes a flair for cutting through the BS and getting to the meat of the matter -- "squeezing all the money I can out of surfers" -- I see a whole lot of useless insulting bullshit posts from you Rat. You telling me that that's not a waste of valuable time from a man of your calibre? Just shut up and admit it, you come here for diversion and amusement every bit as much as I do. I also keep my eye open for new ideas and opportunities that might fit into my business, but that's just a gravy item really. It's the interaction among webmasters from all over the world that is appealing.

I suppose I'm trying to get you to shove your arrogance and lack of respect towards others aside for a few moments and admit what I know is true, and to a small degree here I feel that I've accomplished that. I feel I understand you a bit better, I hope you can say the same about me.

As for your theory of most webmasters here being "sheep" or "cattle" or "the herd"... woudn't it be the wise webmaster that figured out how to put them all to work for himself? (as opposed to bashing them?) I may not win one of Lensman's cars, but I do have nearly 150 of these webmasters referred under me for erasercash for example. You saying I'm wasting my time? Camaaaaaaan. That's ongoing revenue that I don't have to work even one second for. That's even better than rental income, because with rentals I still have to do some maintenance work from time to time.

Your way may be super good, but there are other ways of ravaging this business for all it's worth as well, trust me. As I said before, we could learn a lot from each other, and isn't that what forums like this were really intended for?
