lol, you say "convict" like he robbed a store or something. He went into jail in 1923 for the "Beer Hall Putch" (nov. 8-9 1923), a failed attempt to seize power in Munich with the former german WWI, general Erich Ludendorff. So it was due to a political trial he went into prison. Also, that gave him the grounds to appear as a martir for the "volkisch" & nationalistic movement.
