That's the big misconception though. Everyone thinks that because they're so big, you'll be safe. There have been tests down all around the world about them. Not only are you way more likely to kill someone else in an accident, but even the people in the SUV are more likely to die in a similar accident than they would in a regular car for certain types of accidents.
Oh, and i forgot to mention that they're proned to rolling. The single biggest safety issue for those in an SVU is swerving out of the way and then having to correct, to avoid say, an oncoming car, or a tree. Even at normal speed, the chance of a roll is significant. Get out on a highway and you'll be lucky if you don't roll more than 10 times. Something like 60% of deaths in SUV accidents are due to rollovers. And the roof of an SUV crushes just as easily as the roof of a regular car.
And sure, there have been significant advances in anti-roll technology in recent years, but you're still waaaaaaaaaay way more likely to roll.
