Normally that would be an excellent point -
converting from one compression format to another WOULD result in
loss of quality. WMV to MPEG4 conversion, one the other hand,
can be done without loss because the are exactly the SAME
compression format. WMV just has some extra header info and
such to make it impossible to play on non-Microsoft systems.
(Or at least to ATTEMPT to do so, in fact my Linux system
plays many wmv videos just fine.)
I'm a Linux guy mostly, though I do a little Windows programming,
so I'm not sure which Winblows software can strip that header
for you without recompressing, but I'm sure you can find something
using Google.
