Except for those living along the Canadian border I'd say that most Americans neigther know nor care about the nature of Canada day or what it means.
For myself, since I love both countries for various reasons, I choose to celebrate both the 1st AND the 4th. Toss in the weekend and for me it becomes "North America Week".
