I was in college in Denver while the airport was being built back in 93-96. IT was a huge scandal in the state because the current airport, Stapleton, was adequate for the city at the time. The man who built the airport would go on to be Secretary of Transportation for Clinton.

I was in school for photography, and one of my instructors got a commercial job photographing the underground baggage system before the airport opened to the public. HE said that it was the most MASSIVE thing he'd ever seen in his entire life (and he was originally from New York City)

Anyhow, the lowdown is that it would be a future base for US military to house troops in case of nuclear attack against america. The underground system was built to accommodate up to 60,000 troops. Remember, Norad and most of the Strategic Air Command assets, Satellite assets, etc. are based in Colorado.

The artwork posted on GFY depicts a future apocalypse, exactly what the airport was built for.
