Hire a company to do it for you. Call your local court house, Im sure they have a list. Its not expensive either.

not in California, knock on his door and if he opens it he's served even if he slams the door shut you just lay the papers on the ground. He better show up for court. I got servered that way once and thought I wasn't served.
