THANK YOU FOR THAT UPDATE. That had me sad.
Similiar situation my doggie found a baby bunny in some tall grass and was following it around and then the bunny finally went towards the road, and it tried to go over a sewer grate.. tried to hold on with its hind legs but then plopped in. Luckily a girl across the street saw it all happen so she got her dad and then his dad brought out some tools so we opened up the sewer and grabbed the bunny! My dog licked it to clean it too as she sensed it was frightened (likely from her being there too.. hehe).
