I scanned the entire article and Staff Sgt Pogany...definitely does not fall under "Combat Fatigue"...for unless I missed it he did not engage in any combat at all. In fact...the way the article reads he had just arrived in Iraq...saw a dead body and to my way of thinking he thought to himself "fuck this shit"...and took an available way out of his assignment. Now he does not want any repercussions for his action.
It is basically a military truth...that if you show a sign of weakness...even though the military offers "help" for various situations...alcoholism (even drugs if you go to them before you are caught...if you are caught your military days are over)...spousal abuse...various psychological problems etc. it goes in your "jacket" and can seriously hamper your career progression...or even being re-enlisted when your current enlistment is up.
