Council considers more restrictions for adult businesses
The Rapid City Council is considering whether to place additional limits on adult oriented businesses.
The proposed change would require all employees to get a license from the city and go through a criminal background check. It would be tacked onto an existing ordinance that has been in place for about a year.
Opponents say the current law on AOB's is strict enough. They say the proposal could force some owners of adult oriented businesses to close their doors.
Council members who favor the change say the new rules would protect patrons and employees. They say the background checks would show whether workers had been convicted of assault or sexual felonies.
