Sigh, this administration is a sinking ship if I've ever seen one. John Asskroft goes in front of Congress yesterday to say he's not releasing the memos that prove the administration authorized torture, yet he doesn't invoke executive privilege. It was awesome to see one of the senators kindly remind him that whatever he says isn't the law, and that withholding the documents is illegal.
Big old tough guy John really looked like a kid being yelled at by his dad. The greatest part was seeing one extremely pissed off Senator say something like 'in case you forget why we have the Geneva convention, I'll remind you. It's so when US soldiers like MY SON get taken hostage, they don't get tortured. That's why, in case you people forgot'. I can't remember the last time I've seen anyone in any government so genuinely angry about a serious issue. It's great to know that there are still good people in the US government willing to stand up to these guys! I guess he's not that scary when he can't have the fuzz kick in your door for no reason.
Can't wait to see that sick bastard packing up his shit next Christmas.
