seriously, it's because too many people will try to rape and pillage your niche. if a program is doing excellent, expect the competition to try and get their piece of the pie. i learned a long time ago to keep my mouth shut about just how well you are doing, just say "things are okay". that way nobody tries to muscle in on the same thing you do, there are a lot of haters out there... no reason to give them something to try and destroy you with.
