Anyway, Asher, regarding your question. Here's a really informative article about the Electoral College and why we use it.
In summary, the Electoral College is an outdated system based on the lack of communication between (the then 13) states, that will eventually have to go.
I can't believe it hasn't become a national issue sooner, but it will someday when people see the truth of it's origins and how far we've come since then in regards to communication and public awareness. Besides the fact that it has the potential to udermine the idea of 'democracy' ... even with all the safe-guards in place. Check out this article (It's a PDF):
