I've noticed a trend lately when interviewing various governmental spooks and muckity-mucks (Perle, Rice, Rumsfeld, et alia). When asked about the reaction to a new terrorist attack, every one, without exception, suggested that nation-wide martial law would be imposed until "the crisis passed". After hearing the same message from the 4th or 5th person (each in different forums) it occured to me that the whole martial law meme was something they're deliberately trying to get into people's heads so they don't go rioting in the streets if/when it happens. They're softening the hard landing.
I suspect that the 'crisis' may take a particularly long time to pass this time around, in whatever form it takes... and as a result, I'd say that either engaging or avoiding helter skelter will probably trump porn by a few orders of magnitude. 
Of course, if you take my idle ramblings to heart and are now starting to stock up on .308 shells and gas masks, you should seek professional
