Dialers are rappidly loosing ground. There are a couple of reasons why.
1. less dail-up connections world wide; every day more and more modem/isdn users are switching over to cable and dsl;
2. due to surfer abuse with high rates for lousy content en and multiple scams with autodialers, surfers are avoiding dialers like the plague;
3. more and more surfers are becoming experienced users of their PC and the Internet. Resulting in secure browsing instead of clicking "ok" in every download or active-x screen they encounter;
4. local government interventions; In Europe the use of premium rated numbers in dialers has become stronger regulated. Just look at the new rules that apply for Germany, Spain, Switzerland and Austria. More countries will follow I expect;
In Holland -where we still operate with our own modembanks and IVR- our monthly dialerminutes decreased with 60% in a period from 1999 to today.
I can't say dialers are dead already. A lot of webmasters are still making a lot of minutes, but they will see their volumes go down every single month.
My advise is to put your money on alternative premium rate billing options like Voice PIN access per minute. Focus on your content to get the same holdingtimes , and it will be the best alternative for dialers.
Just my 2-cents.
