ever heard of C&H Sugar? (Californian & Hawaiian) Basically, they grow the cane here, process it, ship it to California, turn it into granulated sugar, package it, ship it back, then we ship it all over the world.
(wacked expensive system if ya ask me, but that's how they do it.)

Yeh that is a messed up system.
I guess officially cachaça is a type of rum since it is made from sugar cane. It is pure firewater to me the couple times I tried it but I'm not really a shots drinker, beer works fine.
