There have been what, maybe 10 verified cases throughout the entire USA? I would have to say your chances of getting any Anthrax tainted candy are rather slim. They probably have a greater chance of being run over by a drunk driver while trick or treating than being dosed with Anthrax.
I happened to be watching a program on the History Channel this morning, and they had a segment about Halloween when I was a kid (I hate when they put shit I lived thru on the History Channel, they should save that for the not so long ago channel) and they talked about how in the 70s there was a scare that went on for a while about people putting razor blades and pins inside apples, etc, and how all of a sudden everyone would take the goodies to the local hospital to be x-rayed. No kids were killed/harmed by the hidden blades, even though some were found.
What was interesting, was the candy that was poisoned and actually killed children. Every single case resulted in it being a family member (mom or dad usually) that had poisoned the candy. Halloween is all about trust, both for the kids going to the doors of strangers, and people opening their doors to strangers.
If we let these terrorists change our lifestyle, they win. I say let the kids decide if they want to trick or treat or not. Besides kids are a lot like dogs, they are usually a good judge of character. If they go to someone's door and that person is acting weird, like wearing a hazmat suit and handing out candy with tongs, they will probably say thanks but no thanks, and egg the house instead.
