My girlfriend was pulled over by the cops today and was caught driving without auto insurance. She is a new driver with perfect record and the best rates she could get were over $400 per month for a used 1999 Ford Taurus and there was a few months she could not afford it so they canceled her policy due to non-payment.
She had no idea how serious it was to drive without insurance but knew she was taking a chance every time she would drive.
It turns out that its a $5,000 - $25,000 fine with possible jail time. She was given 72hrs notice to prove she has auto insurance.
Does anybody have any good advice?

Dude, what the fuck are you talking about? Did they just past this law? Because down in Orange County California, if you're caught with out auto insurance, you get a fix it ticket, if you can't prove you have it, you'll get a $400 fine! I got pulled over back in August and it was right after my policy ended and I was switching providers.
It's about a $400 fine, unless you see the judge, then they'll usually bring the fine down.
