I agree but as parents we want out kids to succeed. My daughter tested at college level on her spelling and reading when she was in second grade. She tested in high school levels on the other subjects. I have a rule in my house that she must bring home straight A's if she doesn't bring home books to study. If she at least makes a solid attempt to make good grades by bringing home her books and studying then that is relaxed. She's been told that if she makes an effort and can't perform that it is ok but if she is lazy and just doesn't make an effort and brings home lower than an A she is in deep shit. She tested me once by bringing home a C on a spelling test. She was promptly grounded to her room with nothing but a book. That was a year and a half ago and she hasn't brought home anything less than an A since then. It sounds harsh but it's really not because it encourages her to work hard.
