I had the privilege of jumping into Sainte Mere-Englise for the 50th aniversary of D-Day. These old guys who actually made the jump 50 years prior, D-Day -1, were incredible. They would tell us how great they thought we were while the whole time I'm looking at their jump wings with 5 mustard stains (mustard stains are actually gold stars on the wings. Each signifies one combat jump) and all I could think of was how these guys were the shit, the night before D-Day jumping in to cut off the German supply lines. That was sacrifice, honor and selflessness. Anyhow from the stories these old Vets would tell us after the ceremony over beer after beer, I think Band of Brothers is probably one of the best depictions of what those guys went through.
