CALGARY - Security efforts at a downtown Calgary hotel are being beefed up in preparation for the first home game of the Stanley Cup finals on the weekend.

The general manager of the Westin, the hotel that will host the Tampa Bay Lightning, says he's trying to help the players get some sleep.
David Connor said during previous playoff games against the San Jose Sharks and Detroit Red Wings, Calgary Flames fans did their best to disrupt the visiting players' slumber.
"They got into the lobby with bull horns, they went to the guest floors and knocked on the doors," he said.
Other fans drove by the hotel early in the morning honking their horns and even hired brass bands to play outside the hotel.
To prevent any repeat performances this weekend, the hotel has hired a dozen extra security guards and will be banning the general public from the hotel premises.
They will also restrict phone calls to any hotel guest the night before home games.
Calgary police will patrol the area surrounding the downtown hotel on foot and on bike to curb any possible noise violations.
