First off, I should correct myself, it was Jeff Magnum who played, not Jimmy Zero (I'm confused today). But anyway, I'm pretty young, so when I was around 13 or 14 MTV was pushing Green Day as new punk (arguably, they're a lot better than what they're pushing today) and I thought they were pretty good. All that made me want to do though was find other punk bands, and it doesn't take a whole lot of searching to find bands like The Misfits, Agent Orange, The Ramones etc. Radio and TV have never really pushed the cooler punk bands but it's not like they're totally hidden. I dunno, I guess for most people it IS a fashion statement or a phase, but it's always bugged me.
