I've posted it before and I'll say it again.
The earth's magnetic field is in the process of a reversal. This happens every 300,000 years. The last reversal was about 780,000 years ago.
When the field weakens and goes into flux the huge electromagnetic field poles at the North and South poles weaken and this enables massive amounts of solar energy to hit the ice caps and change the temperature patterns.
Right now the North pole is shifting 40KM per year.
All the weather patterns get screwed up gradually as this process occurs because the wind and temperature patters all get affected.
