Nurse at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children charged with child porn offences
TORONTO - Police in Toronto announced Monday they laid several child pornography charges against a nurse at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children.
Toronto police searched a residence last Friday and seized a laptop computer, computer disks and photographs.
Staff Insp. Bruce Smollet told a news conference on Monday that many of the photographs were taken at the hospital, but none of those appear to be pornographic.
"We have seized a substantial amount of child porn of other children not from the hospital," said Smollet.
Police charged Scott Faichnie, 33, with two counts of possession of child pornography, one count each of accessing child pornography and making child pornography available.
Faichnie worked for the past two years in an oncology unit at the Hospital for Sick Children.
Seonag Macrae, Sick Children's Hospital vice-president of child health services, said the hospital is shocked at the allegations.
An information line has been set up at the hospital for patients' families. The number is 416-813-6500. An information session will be held at the hospital for concerned family members and staff on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Faichnie is scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Tuesday.
