I think it all comes down to simple numbers. There might not be a shortage of soldiers NOW, but if this keeps up...
A draft could be avoided by trying to involve foreign nations, maybe the UN, but that would require some major changes in the foreign policy of the US.

The military meets their quotas for recruitment early in the year. We could come close to doubling our military without a draft without a problem.
For every person who goes into combat there are 6-7 support personel.
Ask Peaches about her son's experience..... the US Military is very picky on who they let in. ( at least for now)
