The numbers alone don't tell the full story. I know a guy that was charged with assault for pushing a guy. The fucker didn't even fall down. He just had a hissy fit and reported the guy to the cops. I believe the guy withdrew his complaint, and the charges were dropped. But it does show you the kind of thing that can be considered assault.

We don't have very many shootings. Actually, by australian standards, this past 6 months or so has been rather bloody. There's been about 5 or 6 gang/mob related killings in Sydney, i think.

But still, the numbers make you think. If Australia had a similar gun culture to the US, would the murder rate be as high, or even higher? I don't know.
