May 19, 2004 - A new deal.
You all know that I recently made an offer to Michael Moore to give 5% of the profits from the film to Buell Elementary School in Flint, MI, provided he did the 45 minute sit-down interview I?ve been requesting of him for a year now. He has yet to respond.
So now comes word that a bright, young guy named Ryan is conspiring (I love that word) with Lee and Jim over at Moorewatch.com to make him another offer he won?t respond to. Ryan has begun a petition to ask Moore to release Fahrenheit 911 on the internet for free. See, Moore just spent the last two days playing ?aw, shucks? with the French and the press, pretending to be the target of a White House conspiracy (I love that word) to keep his film from being seen in the US. Of course, this is Bullshit! (as my friend Penn would say), designed to drum up anticipation for the flick?s release.
So the other day, I saw a clip of Moore stating that he would release the film, even if he had to commit an act of civil disobedience to do it. He said that it?s crucial that people see this film before the election, and he?d break the law to make sure they do. I?d like to point out that it?s not possible to commit an act of civil disobedience in the process of exercising free speech, but Moore suddenly thinks he?s Ghandi, so I guess that fact is lost on him.
So Ryan has come up with a brilliant solution. If the film is so valuable, and Moore is so determined that people see it for the true purposes he claims, why not forego all the box office garbage and let it loose on the internet? Will Moore agree, or is the money more important than the message? Time will tell, but I think Ryan has a great idea. You can sign a petition at the site, encouraging Moore to show that he is consistent in his ideology. If he?s more interested in the ?truth? being revealed to the world than he is the payday, he?ll do it. But if it?s all just a game designed to increase his personal wealth at the expense of his loyal followers, he won?t. It?s that simple. Check it out at

Before you Moore fans jump all over me and call me a hypocrite, I?d just like to point out that I make no apologies for the fact that I hope to make a profit on this film. I?m intellectually honest enough to know that this is a business, and you should know that I have no illusions about saving the world. I?m just trying to make a good flick. Yeah, I know, somebody will pirate the damn thing and trade it at Kazaah, but I hope enough of you go to see it so that I can make my money back, put my kid through college, and maybe even buy a big, black Cadillac.
I?ll check back soon? possibly with a big announcement.
Take care,
Mike Wilson
