It isn't what you know, it's who you know.
Sure, if a guy who starts building adult websites is genuinely smart, he will probably be successful... but he is going to have to work a lot harder to build contacts and achieve financial success than some clueless little smacktard that just happens to be the cousin of some large, well-networked link list owner (for example).
For some people this business is nothing more than piggybacking and brown nosing. Whether financially successful or not, the difference is that genuinely smart people in this or any other business don't rely on daddy.
